Parents Outraged As Planned Parenthood Teaches Sex-ed To Kids

FULL TITLE: ‘Planned Parenthood is a business that sells sex’: San Fran parents outraged that abortion giant taught sex ed to kids

A group of high school parents in the East Bay area of San Francisco were surprised and upset when they learned Planned Parenthood was teaching sex education to their children in the district’s schools.

“Planned Parenthood is a business. It’s a business that sells sex,” Acalanes Union High School District resident Camille Giglio told the local CBS affiliate KPIX. “It’s a way to get clientele and to sexualize young people and turn them into lifelong clients.”

Giglio is a spokeswoman for the group of Acalanes Union High School District parents recently established called the NOISE (No to Irresponsible Sex Education) Coalition.

She told KPIX she wants Planned Parenthood out of the high schools, not because of what they’re teaching, but what she fears they’re selling.

“I feel outraged. I feel sad, and I’m worried for the future of these kids,” Giglio said.

Freshmen sit through a week of “comprehensive sex ed” presented by the California faction of the nation’s largest abortion provider.

“It’s a way to get clientele and to sexualize young people and turn them into lifelong clients.”

“The staff and governing board believe Planned Parenthood does an excellent job,” Acalanes Superintendent John Nickerson told KPIX. “The concerns that were raised are not merited.”

The district has partnered with Planned Parenthood for the past decade, he said, adding that sex education is not about politics.

“Abstinence is emphasized and given value,” said Nickerson.

The NOISE Coalition said the school did not notify parents ahead of time, did not have an administrator present in the class, and did not have a formal contract with Planned Parenthood for parents to review, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The district denied the allegations, except for the absent contract, but then signed one with the abortion giant after the fact.

The November 5 Acalanes School Board meeting was packed with about two dozen people ready to speak about the issue, according to Fox affiliate KTVU.

Passions were high on both sides, with some insisting Planned Parenthood has a fact-based program that does not push an agenda.

Planned Parenthood Northern California Senior Vice-President Gilda Gonzales told KTVU the Acalanes district has used Planned Parenthood for roughly 35 years, and the curriculum is in line with California’s education code Part 28, Chapter 5.6, Article 2, which covers Authorized Comprehensive Sexual Health Education requirements.

“California law does not allow for there to be an abstinence only curriculum if you are going to do sex education or education around HIV/AIDS and STDs,” Gonzales said.

Planned Parenthood told the news station its curriculum does not include abortion, but it will be addressed if a student raises the question.

The district said parents are notified in advance of the Planned Parenthood instruction and allowed to opt out, but parent Robin Longchamps said the district did not provide enough information, KTVU reported.

“I feel it is highly inappropriate for Acalanes with the district’s approval to introduce Planned Parenthood to a 14-year-old,” Longchamps told board members.

Opponents of the abortion provider having access to students said at the meeting that the district should teach sex education, but not use Planned Parenthood.

College student Emily Poon was joined by about a dozen other college students with signs opposing Planned Parenthood.

“They have school nurses here that could do the job,” Poon said.

The concerned parents and residents said they will not give up until the board agrees to take action.

The Acalanes Union High School District did not immediately respond to LifeSiteNews’ request for comment.
