Ted Cruz: End Birthright Citizenship
“That has been my position from the very first day of my running for the Senate.”
Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday that we should “absolutely” end automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.
In an interview on “The Michael Medved Show,” Cruz said he and Donald Trump agree about the need to end birthright citizenship, which he explained has been his position from the “very first day” he started running for Senate.
“Absolutely,” said Cruz when asked if he believed we should change the law. “We should end granting automatic birthright citizenship to the children of those who are here illegally.”
“I would note that that has been my position from the very first day of my running for the Senate,” said Cruz, making clear he is not simply trying to keep stride with Trump. In fact, Cruz pointed out, he has proposed a majority of the policies outlined in Trump’s immigration plan in previous legislation.
Cruz also warned, however, that while it was “possible” to make the change, “any constitutional amendment by its nature is difficult to achieve.”
Cruz has been a strong voice against the “lawless” practices of the Obama administration regarding illegal immigration, frequently highlighting the suffering caused by those policies—particularly in border states like his own—and vehemently condemning Obama’s executive amnesty as “illegal” and “unconstitutional.”

I’d like to see birthright citizenship ended. However, it’s not easy to amend the Constitution (which would be necessary to end birthright citizenship). Unless, of course, the Supreme Court just lies about the Constitution like they did with the recent gay marriage ruling.
