Sen. Ted Cruz, who has argued and won many cases before the U.S. Supreme Court as Texas solicitor general, blasted the latest decision to (once again) strike down the state’s voter ID law.

Cruz posted on Facebook:

Yesterday’s decision to strike down Texas’ commonsense Voter ID law undermines the rule of law and frustrates Texas’s responsibility to preserve the integrity of its elections.

As the Supreme Court explained in Crawford v Marion County, “flagrant examples of [voter] fraud . . . have been documented throughout this Nation’s history by respected historians and journalists [and] demonstrate that not only is the risk of voter fraud real but that it could affect the outcome of a close election.”

Voter fraud diminishes confidence in our democratic process, and minority voters are far too frequently the victims of that fraud. The Voter ID law is a commonsense protection to safeguard the rights of every Texan and to prevent illegal voter fraud.

The district judge’s opinion to the contrary violates Supreme Court precedent, and I trust that the Fifth Circuit will reverse it on appeal.

Judicial activism is the last bastion of the left’s legal onslaught to give “extra” rights to non-citizens, to force the government to admit any alien to live here, and to prevent states from properly vetting against non-citizens exercising rights reserved for American citizens.

It’s time Congress clipped the federal judiciary’s all-encompassing wings, but until that happens, Sen. Cruz will use his estimable legal prowess to combat judicial overreach.
