UN Glorifies Castro, Showing The World Why The Failed Organization Is Nothing More Than A Den For Dictators

fidel_castroToday’s United Nations is the antithesis of the bastion of humanity First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt championed over six decades ago. Walking through the corridors of power at the UN building in New York are some of the worst violators of human rights, theocrats, autocrats, sadists, and madmen. Built on a blueprint of tragic irony, the UN isn’t just an inept, isolated institution, but a disease of moral decay metastasizing through the beating heart of human dignity.

On Saturday, the head of this decrepit international body showed the world, once again, what the United Nations has become. In a glowing review that would make even Cuba’s secret police and prison torturers blush, UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon celebrated the life of Fidel Castro, calling the deranged dictator “a strong voice for social justice” via a spokesman.

“At this time of national mourning, I offer the support of the United Nations to work alongside the people of the island,” the UN chief told reporters at the Global Sustainable Transport Conferencein Turkmenistan. “Under former President Castro, Cuba made advances in the fields of education, literacy, and health. I hope that Cuba will continue to advance on a path of reform and greater prosperity.”

Offering his personal condolences to current Cuban tyrant Raul Castro, and the rest of the Castro family, Ban then deployed his spokesman in New York to broadcast a wildly hagiographic story of Fidel’s life.

“[Castro’s] revolutionary ideals left few indifferent. He was a strong voice for social justice in global discussions at the UN General Assembly and international and regional forums,” said the spokesman. “The Secretary-General vividly recalls meeting him during a visit to Cuba in January 2014, and was impressed by the former President’s passion and lively engagement on a wide range of issues.”

Infamous human rights violators, China and Russia (both countries sit comfortably on the UN Security Council) followed suit, showering the brute from Havana with unequivocal praise.

“He achieved immortal historical achievements for the development of world socialism. He was the great person of our era, and people and history will remember him,” stated Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a statement delivered on CCTV (Chinese state television). “Great Castro will live forever.” Xi added the People’s Republic of China had lost “an intimate and sincere friend.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, a man who knows a thing or two about oppressing his own people, said the following about the deceased Cuban dictator:

“This strong and wise man always looked into the future with confidence. He embodied the high ideals of a politician, citizen and patriot who wholeheartedly believed in the cause, to which he devoted his life.”

While these sentiments are to be expected from China, Russia, and other like-minded totalitarian states, sympathetic Castro eulogies were uncannily coming from liberal democracies, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

President Obama’s euphemistic portrayal of Castro likely had Reagan and Roosevelt rolling over in their graves. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s saint-like description of the mass murderer has done more to shame Canada than every violent hockey riot combined. UK Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn, a far-left clown infamous for palling around with Hezbollah terrorists, did what he knows best and masturbated to a leftist oppressor. If you thought that the bureaucrats in Brussels at least had the decency to be circumspect about whitewashing Castro’s legacy, think again.

“With the death of #FidelCastro, the world has lost a man who was a hero for many,” stated European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, using the weasel words “for many” to strip himself of agency.

The United Nations is only as influential as its constituent member states. Given the moral bankruptcy seen in London, Washington, Ottawa, and Brussels (let alone Beijing and Moscow), it’s no surprise that the UN has become a den for dictators, a safe haven for some of the most ruthless leaders to shield themselves against judgment.

It’s quite extraordinary that the United Nations has any time for formalities at all. Between harboring crude Hamas missiles in their multi-million dollar “schools” to issuing every blood libel on the book against the Jewish state of Israel, the UN is awfully busy doing a dictator’s bidding.

The UN has not only failed to carry out its mandate and stop the worst abuses known to man, turning a blind eye to the suffering in Rwanda, Bosnia, and elsewhere, but it has done profound damage to the integrity of the so-called “international community.” By availing itself of self-regulation, the organization has been painfully slow to act on in-house crimes.

When UN peacekeepers raped children in the Central African Republican, the UN’s leadership was slow to act, allowing the abuse to go on for far too long.

When South Sudanese soldiers went on an hours-long rampage, raping several women, a UN peacekeeping force stationed less than a mile away, refused to respond, despite deafening cries for help sent by gang-rape victims through a series of phone calls to the station.

When the UN patted itself on the back for delivering aid to war-torn Syria, The Guardian exposed the fact that the international organization was actually paying millions of dollars to the genocidal Bashar al-Assad regime through “charity” contracts awarded to the Assad family.

“The UN has awarded contracts worth tens of millions of dollars to people closely associated with the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, as part of an aid programme that critics fear is increasingly at the whim of the government in Damascus, a Guardian investigation has found,” reported TheGuardian in a searing indictment of the UN’s ability to provide aid without making deals with the devil. “Businessmen whose companies are under US and EU sanctions have been paid substantial sums by the UN mission, as have government departments and charities – including one set up by the president’s wife, Asma al-Assad, and another by his closest associate, Rami Makhlouf.”

When the world looked to the UN to serve as an objective middleman and facilitate peace in the Middle East, its cultural arm, UNESCO, did everything in its power to erase the heritage of history’s most oppressed people, the Jews. In an unequivocally anti-Jewish resolution, the UN posited that the Jewish have no connection to the Temple Mount. Of course, the sick irony here is that it was the Jews that built the Temple Mount, a structure now increasingly occupied by colonialist Arab-Muslims.

When the UN appointed Saudi Arabia, a country Amnesty International once condemned as  “one of the most prolific executioners in the world” to head the human rights council, it effectively blotted out every single word the UN Declaration on Human Rights. In one fell swoop, the United Nations, self-proclaimed gatekeeper of moral fortitude, torched their own olive-branch emblazoned flag and embraced the guillotine.

The UN today exists in as a symbolic tribute to tyranny. Nothing more. The organization has become a parody of what it once stood for, a stark example of what happens when man falls from grace and embraces humanity’s worst inclinations. The UN’s building in New York is nothing more than a den for dictators where giddy and self-congratulatory oligarchs marvel at the fact that in 2016, they can brutalize their fellow man and get away with it.
