Ted Cruz says if President Barack Obama wants to insult him then he should do it to his face. The Texas senator running for the Republican nomination challenged Obama to a debate on the issue of the Syrian refugee crisis currently gripping American politics from coast to coast.

The New York Times reports that after Obama was dismissive of those that want to stop or slow down the resettlement of Syrian refugees, Cruz threw down the gauntlet:

Speaking to reporters in Washington on Wednesday, Mr. Cruz, a Republican running for president, challenged Mr. Obama to a public debate on refugee policy, criticizing Mr. Obama for having made his remarks on a trip to Manila.

“I prefer it in the United States and not overseas, where you’re making the insults,” Mr. Cruz said of the unlikely debate. “It’s easy to toss a cheap insult when no one can respond.”

Cruz is preparing a bill that would stop most, if not all, Syrian refugees from entering the United States, calling it “lunacy” to accept thousands of people when ISIS has made it clear they will use refugees to infiltrate the West.
