“Bootleg Israelites love to claim that Deuteronomy 28 is some kind of spiritual DNA test—that if you read the curses and think they fit your people, congratulations, you must be Israel.
But here’s the problem: Deuteronomy 28 never says the curses are the identifying sign of Israel.
In fact, it says the commandments will be the “sign and the wonder” on Israel forever—not the curses.
That means obedience, covenant, and Torah observance—not oppression—is what marks Israel.
So let’s put their claim to the test.
Let’s actually go verse by verse and compare: do these curses fit African Americans, or do they match the lived history of the Jewish people?
The answer is obvious.
As the chart shows, every curse in Deuteronomy 28 has literally happened to the Jews—from exile and siege cannibalism to being scattered worldwide, mocked, enslaved, and persecuted.
For African Americans, only a handful of these verses even apply—and most only metaphorically.
