A handful of Georgia businesses signed on Thursday a friend-of-the-court brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of gay marriage.Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines and Cox Enterprises were among 379 companies and organizations around the country urging the court to strike down bans restricting same-sex unions. AT&T, whose mobility unit is based in Atlanta, also signed the brief.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is owned by Cox Enterprises.

The brief argues that companies would benefit from uniform marriage laws across the nation. Brief supporters include family-owned businesses, sports franchises and Fortune 100 giants.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments April 28 in a gay marriage case from the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which has upheld same-sex union bans. The justices are expected to rule sometime in June.
