North Korea threatens U.S. with “hail of fire”
North Korea’s Foreign Minister on Wednesday threatened the United States with “a hail of fire” and said U.S. President Donald Trump has “lit the wick of war” with his country.
“With his bellicose and insane statement at the United Nations, Trump, you can say, has lit the wick of a war against us,” the minister, Ri Yong Ho, said, according to Reuters.
“We need to settle the final score, only with a hail of fire, not words,” he added.
Ri’s comments came hours after the U.S. military flew two Air Force B-1B Lancer bombersover the Korean peninsula.
The two bombers were accompanied by two F-15K fighters from the South Korean military and Japanese fighters joined the drill as well.
The drill took place as Trump met with his national security team to discuss “a range of options” on North Korea in response to its increasing nuclear ambitions.
This is not the first time that Ri has verbally attacked Trump. Following Trump’s recent speech at the UN, the North Korean foreign minister said Trump made an “irreversible mistake” and threatened the “entire U.S. mainland” with missiles.
Trump later fired back at the minister, tweeting, “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!”
Ri also said Trump’s speech to the UN last week and his subsequent tweets were a “declaration of war.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later dismissed the claims that the U.S. was declaring war on North Korea.
