NYPD Commish Bill Bratton to Obama: “We Have to Be Very Concerned About” Who We Let Out of Prison
New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says he is concerned about plans by President Barack Obama and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to allow early release of “nonviolent” offenders.
“One of the issues of concern is when people go to jail, oftentimes they go to jail with negotiated charges … so that somebody that is in jail that seems that they’re a nonviolent drug offender may in fact have crimes of violence in their record,” Bratton said Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York.
“We have to be very concerned about who we’re letting out,” Bratton told host John Catsimatidis.
Bratton said he wants to look at the issue of sealed records in the context of early prisoner releases.
“Some people are bad people,” he said, “And we need to separate the bad people from the good people.”
