Obama Equates Gun Control With Fighting Terrorism – After Sending Guns to Syrian Muslim Terrorists
In a recent interview with BBC, President Obama identified his lack of success instituting tight gun control laws as that which has caused him the most frustration throughout his time in the White House.
“That is an area where if you ask me where has been the one area where I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense, gun-safety laws,” Obama said when asked by reporter Jon Sopel about his “unfinished business” regarding gun control.
Obama went on to contrast the number of U.S. citizens killed by terrorism since the fateful September 11, 2001, terrorist attack with the count of those killed by gun violence to emphasize the latter and suggest that gun violence is a more timely issue than terrorism.
“If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it’s less than 100. If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it’s in the tens of thousands,” Obama alleged. “And for us not to be able to resolve that issue has been something that is distressing. But it is not something that I intend to stop working on in the remaining 18 months.”
The president has been ruthless in his pursuit of strict gun control laws. This year, the Justice Department plans to press forward on over a dozen new gun regulations it intends to enact before the president leaves office in 2017.
Most recently, the Obama administration started pushing to block certain seniors receiving Social Security benefits from owning firearms if they are deemed no longer able to handle their affairs.
“Even in the face of repeated mass killings,” the president added.
Does Obama really believe that more gun control can save lives? Then why did Obama send weapons to Syrian Muslims – many whom were associated with Al-Qaeda?
From USA Today:
A Syrian rebel group’s April pledge of allegiance to al-Qaeda’s replacement for Osama bin Laden suggests that the terrorist group’s influence is not waning and that it may take a greater role in the Western-backed fight to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The pledge of allegiance by Syrian Jabhat al Nusra Front chief Abou Mohamad al-Joulani to al-Qaeda leader Sheik Ayman al-Zawahri was coupled with an announcement by the al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq, the Islamic State of Iraq, that it would work with al Nusra as well.
Lebanese Sheik Omar Bakri, a Salafist who says states must be governed by Muslim religious law, says al-Qaeda has assisted al Nusra for some time.
And an article from the Huffington Post shows Obama authorized sending weapons to these terrorists in 2013:
President Barack Obama has authorized sending weapons to Syrian rebels for the first time, U.S. officials said Thursday, after the White House disclosed that the United States has conclusive evidence President Bashar Assad’s government used chemical weapons against opposition forces trying to overthrow him.
Obama has repeatedly said the use of chemical weapons would cross a “red line,” suggesting it would trigger greater American intervention in the two-year crisis.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the strongest proponents of U.S. military action in Syria, said he was told Thursday that Obama had decided to “provide arms to the rebels,” a decision confirmed by three U.S. officials. The officials cautioned that decisions on the specific type of weaponry were still being finalized, though the CIA was expected to be tasked with teaching the rebels how to use the arms the White House had agreed to supply.
So the question must be asked, does Obama believe gun control works to prevent violence, or does he believe that sending guns to terrorist Muslims will prevent violence? Our countries forefathers must be rolling in their graves.
