Trump: ‘Maybe we shouldn’t be so honest’ about military strategy

Donald Trump trashed Hillary Clinton on Friday for saying she would not put boots on the ground in Iraq and Syria if elected president of the United States.

Trump did not say whether or not he would put boots on the ground to combat the Islamic State, and instead told the crowd at the Values Voter Summit that Clinton should not telegraph her plans as president.

“Even if you believe it, I can understand that, more boots on the ground, I can understand, you don’t say it!” Trump said in Washington, D.C. “Let them think they’re going to go through hell.”

He added later, “I hate to say this because a lot of evangelicals in this room, maybe we shouldn’t be so honest when it comes to military strategy.”

A few minutes after preaching the value of dishonesty as a military strategy, Trump said, “It’s time to restore honesty and integrity to our government.”

Trump’s comments come soon after Wednesday’s commander-in-chief forum where Trump and Clinton took questions separately on live television.

As Trump urged voters to tune into the upcoming debates, one woman in the audience yelled out to Trump to tell him not to take Clinton’s “bait” while onstage. He insisted he would not.

Little more than two weeks remain until the first debate in New York.
